Busby & Clarkston Horticultural Society Newsletter December 2021

DEAR MEMBER

Membership – A great talk on Gladioli in November and the speaker Keith Brand thanks our members for their hospitality and generosity in purchasing Gladioli corms in aid of Alzheimers.

We signed up two new members and there were a few other new faces in the audience. Tea & Coffee were back, hurrah!

Our “Friends of Bachs” has grown to 9 members – many thanks for all who have joined. Some have come forward to assist with the Tea rota at monthly meetings. Thank you.
There is no talk scheduled for December – our next one on Pot Plants will be at the AGM on Thursday 20th January 2022. More details soon.

Final plea for you to consider joining the Committee – we need 3 or 4 new members, and you can be nominated at the AGM. Please think about it & contact me beforehand. Thanks.

Jobs for DecemberLook after our feathered friends – leave seed-heads on herbaceous plants, bird food on tables & don’t forget their water needs (see cartoon).
Plants for winter hanging baskets – we were asked at Garden Doctor time for suggestions.
Here are some – Winter pansies, Euonymus, Japanese Holly, Violas, Gaultheria, Primroses,
Bellis, Mysotis, Cineraria, Heuchera, Ivy, Heathers, Ferns & Sedges to name a few. Don’t forget Crocuses, Snowdrops & Irises for spring colour popping through.

Protect outdoor pots – plants in pots are more susceptible to frost, so to give them that added protection, wrap the pot (not the plant) in bubble wrap. Saves the pot cracking also.
